Urbanism Relocated: An Intermediate Encounter
Korean Music in Indonesia
We encourage scholars, researchers, and musicians to submit papers for consideration to be presented in sessions covering the following topics:
IDENTITY
This theme explores the evolution of personal and collective identity as expressed through participation in traditional, contemporary, and popular music. Possible topics include: subculture, fandom, conflict, representation, gender constructions, nationalism, and diaspora.
PRACTICE
This theme relates to processes of creation, expression, and embodiment through musical practice. Possible topics include: performance studies, organology, composition, pedagogy, music theory/analysis, and sound studies.
INDUSTRY
This theme examines the use of Korean music as a cultural product through commercialization in Indonesia. Possible topics include: media, marketing, globalism, entertainment, urbanization, cultural influence, and economics.
RELATIONSHIPS
This theme explores the various political relationships between Korea and Indonesia. Possible topics include: cultural exchange programs, international music events, government policies, diplomacy, and power dynamics.
Abstracts and articles should be written in English
